about

"No Parrots In Poland" is Senivoda’s debut EP. Consisting of four beautifully crafted songs, the record is an exploration of self in relation to the world around. Inspiration is drawn from experiences of love, longing, the idea of home, adventure and fulfillment. The songs are simultaneously gentle and powerful, full of light, yet holding a thoughtful darkness.

Influenced by music from different corners of the world "No Parrots In Poland" fuses Ola Milena’s polish roots with contemporary jazz harmonies and psychedelic sound scapes, creating an ambience full of emotion, reflection and magic.

The opening track "Get Away", derived from an experience of eye-to-eye love at first sight is full of cheeky imagery, where green eyes of past lovers drive one into the sweetest kind of madness. The band has recently released a video for the song, shot amongst the most beautiful Australian landscapes. The "Get Away" film is a visual journey through color, with costumes, a great story line and a ride in a classic 1970s Ford Galaxy.

"Kot", written in polish, Ola’s mother tongue is a metaphor for living a life as a white cat. While jumping over fences, climbing on the rooftops, sneaking through half opened windows, one can’t help but get a little bit dirty sometimes. Soft and playful in the beginning, Kot’s melodies spiral and grow as the song progresses, exploding in passion as the song comes to a close.

The search for home, both external and within is the core of “Lady You’re Gone”. This is a song about loosing your own strength and power, forgetting the beauty that radiates inside and searching for hope to continue the journey. Here Ola’s lyrics show true craftsmanship, poetic and full of potent imagery: “Spin me again, until I spew all of this phlegm, sitting inside my throat. Keep spinning love, until I chuck you out…” floating or howling over the ever-growing sound from the guitar, bass and drums.

The record concludes with a polish film song from 1958. Ola’s grandmother’s favorite tune. Recorded as a duo with Aleister James on guitar it is a tribute to the original form of Senivoda, a time when Ola and Aleister collaborated and performed around Melbourne as a team of two, before expanding into a full band with Raphael Bowen on bass and Marley Berry-Pearce on drums.
